Police operations against the theft of copper cables are still on-going in the KZN province to nab all the thieves involved.

This follows an operation that was conducted on 9 May 2021, at Umhlali SAPS where police officers deployed at Prasa were conducting patrols at Umhlali Railway line at 04:00.

Whilst they were busy with patrols, they received information about people who were stealing copper cables at Avoca Railway line. The team proceeded to the scene and upon arrival they were informed by security personnel that copper cables had been stolen.

The team followed all possible leads to trace the suspects.

About 100 metres away from the scene, the police found 915 metres of copper cable to the value of R230 400-00. The copper cables were found abandoned.

The suspects are still being sought by police.
