On Tuesday 30 May 2023, Pietermaritzburg Regional Court convicted and sentenced Sihle Madonda (45) for possession of unlicensed firearm as well as ammunition.

On 4 May 2021, Hawks members from Pietermaritzburg Serious Organised Crime Investigation received information about a suspect who was in possession of unlicensed firearm at Entembeni area near Taylors Halt.

They proceeded to the said homestead and a search was conducted.

During the search, members found an AK47 rifle with 54 rounds of ammunition.

Madonda was arrested and charged accordingly. He appeared in court several times until he was convicted and sentenced on 30 May 2023.

Madonda was sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment for possession of unlicensed firearm.

He was further sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for illegal possession of ammunition and five years will run concurrently with 15 years.
