Police seize illegal weapons in Muden, Greytown operations

KwaZulu-Natal police on Wednesday said they had seized firearms and arrested one suspect during a crime intelligence driven operation in Muden, Greytown.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said police form various units were conducting an operation at Ophathe area in the early hours of Wednesday morning, and during the raids they discovered unlicensed firearms.

“The members raided a homestead in the area and recovered an unlicensed shotgun and a pistol with live rounds of ammunition. The suspect who failed to produce the license to possess firearms was arrested and charged accordingly,” Zwane said.

Zwane said the 42-year-old suspect would appear in the Greytown Magistrate’s Court soon facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Acting KZN provincial commissioner, Major-General Bhekinkosi Langa praised the members involved for their ongoing operations in the province in getting rid of illegal firearms.
