Police recovers R400 000 worth of heroin, Nigerian arrested

A man was arrested and police recovered heroin capsules and 60 grams of heroin valued R400,000 in a drug raid in the Ethekwini Inner South, Durban police said on Friday.

The Ethekwini Inner South Cluster Commander, Major General Keerath Nunkumar said the drug raid was conducted on Thursday, after the task team received a tip off that there was a suspect dealing in drugs within the Brighton Beach Policing area.

“The Nigerian male suspect who was caught filling heroin capsules was arrested on Thursday,” said Nunkumar.

He said the suspect occupied a house in Brighton Beach where he was producing and hand packing the heroin capsules and the Task Team recovered 3152 heroin capsules, 60 grams of heroin powder and a large bag filled with empty capsules.

Nukumar said commended members on their excellent recovery and contribution in the National operation, the drug raid contributed towards the National Operation ‘When Duty Calls’, in eliminating drugs in the Ethekwini Inner South Area.

“We will continue to search the streets of the Ethekwini Inner South stations precinct to eliminate all drug trafficking or use of drugs as research shows that drug is a contributing factor to the high crime,” Nukumar said.

He is expected to appear in court soon.
