An intelligence driven operation was conducted by KwaMsane Tactical Response Team members at Ezibayeni, Hluhluwe and Nongoma area. The operation started in the early hours of Friday, 20 July 2018 until yesterday morning, searching for the most wanted suspects linked in various cases.
The operation yielded fruitful results when the members arrested four suspects for possession of unlicensed firearm, ammunition and possession of a stolen vehicle.
The members spotted a blue Toyota Tazz, travelling at Mthekwini area, Hluhluwe and tried to intercept the vehicle but it sped off. During the crossfire one of the suspects sustained an injury. Two suspects including the injured one were arrested at the scene.
A firearm with 11 rounds of ammunition was found from the suspects. The injured suspect was taken to hospital for medical attention where he is under police guard. The other two suspects fled the scene on foot to the nearby bushes.
The team worked tirelessly till late searching for the two suspects who managed to flee the scene. They were traced and arrested in the Nongoma area while trying to flee to Gauteng.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the firearm was stolen in Gauteng during the robbery in 2014 and the vehicle was stolen in Hluhluwe this month. Two suspects are also linked to charges of robberies, murders and attempted murder committed in Gauteng and Ezibayeni.
They will also be profiled to check if they are linked to other cases reported in the Zululand and surrounding areas.
All the arrested suspects are aged between 20 and 28. They are expected to appear in the Hluhluwe Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 24 July 2018 on charges of possession unlicensed firearm, ammunition, possession of a suspected stolen property and attempted murder of police officials.
