Authorities in KwaZulu-Natal have initiated a manhunt for an unidentified number of suspects following a mass shooting that left eight people dead in the Zama informal settlement, U Section, Umlazi, on Friday evening, 16 May 2025.
Police responded to reports of multiple murders and discovered the victims—six men and two women, aged between 22 and 40—lying in pools of blood with multiple gunshot wounds.
Preliminary reports indicate that the victims were inside a dwelling when the assailants entered and opened fire, killing all eight at the scene. Investigators are working to determine the motive behind the attack.
Authorities have urged anyone with information that could aid the investigation to contact their nearest police station or call Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
No arrests have been made, and police are appealing to the public for assistance in tracking down the suspects.
