Members of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit (Narcotics), assisted by the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit and the Provincial Counterfeit Goods Unit, conducted a successful raid in the Klaarwater area of Marianhill yesterday, following intelligence-driven information about the illegal manufacturing and distribution of counterfeit vodka.

Authorities executed a search warrant at the identified premises, where a 31-year-old suspect was found on-site and immediately arrested. The suspect faces charges for contravening the Liquor Act and the Counterfeit Goods Act.

During the operation, police discovered suspected counterfeit vodka with an estimated street value of R250,000 being manufactured at the location.

The suspect appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court this morning, where his case was remanded to a later date for further proceedings.

Investigations into the illicit operation are ongoing.
