Two suspects aged 32 and 33 are expected to appear in the Phungashe Magistrate’s Court on 17 March 2021, for armed robbery, perpetrated at Phungashe Post Office.

On 12 January 2021, at about 07:55, three suspects entered Phungashe Post Office and held up staff members at gunpoint. The suspects forced the manager to open the safe and stole an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects further robbed employees of two cell phones and fled the scene in their getaway vehicle.

A case of armed robbery was reported at St Faith’s police station and the case docket was allocated to Hawks members from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation team for an intensive probe.

In the early hours of Tuesday, 16 March 2021, a joint operation was conducted by Hawks members and Port Shepstone Tactical Response Team at Endwebu area. The operation yielded positive results when the two suspects were brought to book. They were charged for armed robbery.
Investigations are continuing and more arrests are expected.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Head, Major General Leseja Senona welcomed the arrest of the two suspects. “Our members will continue with the search of the outstanding suspects and their time is limited they will be soon brought to book”, he said.
