In the past 48 hours Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) has responded to 748 callouts in regards to protest action, looting, murder, arson, attempted murder and Malicious Injury to Property in the Durban and surrounding areas in Kwazulu Natal.

On Sunday 11 July 2021, all Reaction Officers who were Off Duty were instructed to report to the RUSA Headquarters and assist with emergencies. Whilst attending to these callouts, three Reaction Officers were injured, six motor vehicles and bikes were extensively damaged.

Several Human bodies have been found strewn on the streets and thousands of business premises were damaged, looted and set alight.

The RUSA Headquarters has attended to four females and two males who stumbled onto the premises suffering gunshot and stab wounds. One female had her abdomen slit open. The injured were provided with medical attention.

The RUSA Robinson R44 Helicopter came under fire by protesters in the vicinity of Phoenix/KwaMashu during an operation on Monday 12 July 2021). The Pilot and Crew executed an emergency landing and did not sustain any injuries. The aircraft continues to provide aerial support and has covered several towns and industrial areas providing vital information to Law Enforcement and keeping observation for ground crew.

Residential areas are also being patrolled with the Chopper. Several people have been evacuated to safer areas and Paramedics were flown into emergency situations that were unreachable by Ambulance.

Reaction Officers have attended to several incidents such as murders, arson, shootings etc. that are related to the protest and further details and images will be provided in future posts.
