Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to Royal Manor in Sastri Park, Phoenix where at least one person was shot and an off duty Policeman was injured after he was run over. At approximately 17:19 on Sunday 16 August 2020, the RUSA Phoenix Operations Center received a call from a member of public reporting multiple shots being fired in the area.
On arrival Reaction Officers found the South African Police and private ambulance services in attendance.
Details surrounding the incident are unclear at this stage however it is alleged that three men approached a silver Toyota Etios Cross and opened fire on the occupants. The driver sped off but knocked into a light pole. An off duty Policeman was run over in the process.
Three suspects have been arrested by Police and at least one firearm was seized. Several spent 9mm cartridges were recovered at the scene.
The motive for the shooting is suspected to be drug related however this could not be confirmed.
