Reports from the fire scene at a flat in Orient Hills allege that the elderly male was possibly asleep when the fire broke out and tragically demised in the blaze.

ER24 responded to the scene on Citrus Drive in Isipingo and spokesman, Pieter Rossouw said, “The man allegedly had previous injuries which made movement extremely difficult and it is believed that he could not escape the fire in time.

The 76-year-old man sustained 100% burns over his entire body and was unfortunately declared dead on scene. ER24 along with fire and rescue services were on scene to assist in extinguishing the fire and help with any other emergencies if needed.

No other injuries were sustained during the incident. The cause of the fire is unknown and is subject to investigation by the local police and fire departments.”

Firefighters responded swiftly to the fire and were already on scene when Alpha Alarms responded. They had the flames under control within a short period of time.

Flat dwellers gathered around and were in shock over the untimely tragedy. Alpha Alarms members stood down at the scene and awaited the arrival of police whilst keeping onlookers at bay.

We, the members of Alpha Alarms, extend our deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and friends of the deceased gentleman. May his soul rest in peace.
