A 25 year old man was arrested for theft by members of Reaction Unit South Africa on Inanda Road in Verulam a on 19 June 2017.

Reaction Officers were called out to a residence on Glenhaven Drive in Brindhaven on 19 June 2017 after the homeowner discovered several metres of barb wire surrounding his property had been stolen. The victim explained that it was the second time within a week that criminals had stolen his security fencing. Officers searched an area near the home an recovered the stolen barb wire. The theft was captured on CCTV.

That same day the victim once again contacted RUSA claiming that the same suspect, who he identified from the security footage was walking on Inanda Road. Reaction Officers patrolled the area and located the suspect. While being interviewed the Redcliffe resident admitted to the theft and claimed that the barb wire he had stolen last week, which was valued in excesses of R400, was sold for R50 to an individual in the Verulam CBD. The profits from the theft were used to support his drug habit.

The suspect has been arrested by Reaction Officers previously for crimes relating to theft. He served a two month sentence in Westville Prison towards the latter part of last year after he was apprehended by authorities for being in possession of heroin.
