Health MEC Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo has sent his deepest condolences to the family of an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) paramedic who has demised after being gunned down while leaving work in Pietermaritzburg at the weekend.
It is alleged that Mr Sibusiso Mthethwa, 36, was shot by unknown people near the gate of Edendale Hospital on Friday, 23 June 2017, in the early evening. He passed away in hospital the next morning. Mr Mthethwa was stationed at the Mbali township EMS base, and was an Intermediate Life Support paramedic.
Reacting to the incident, MEC Dhlomo said: “We are deeply shocked at the callousness of this incident. It is concerning that human life has become cheap to a point where criminals appear not to evening think twice before snuffing away people’s lives.
In the case of Mr Mthethwa, we have been robbed of a foot soldier who was committed towards saving people’s lives. Today, because of the cold-blooded actions of others, a family has lost a son, father and husband. We say condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
We hope that the perpetrators will be brought to book and subjected to the maximum legal sanction possible.”
Mr Mthethwa will be buried at Nquthu on Sunday, 02 July 2017.
He is survived by his wife and five children.
