Owner of KZN wedding venue shot and killed

Farm Murder – Umhlali – On 28 January 2017 at approximately 21:00, IPSS paramedics were called out to a wedding venue in Umhlali for a shooting.

Upon arrival Paramedics found an elderly male, believed to be the owner of Maroupi Weddings & Functions, lying outside next to the pool.

Paramedics found that he sustained a gunshot wound to his chest from a high caliber firearm, and unfortunately he had succumbed to his injuries.

Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said four men entered Maroupi Wedding Venue and demanded money from the owner.

“The owner refused to give them money and then they shot and killed him. They were also unable to open the safe,” Zwane said.

Four guests were tide up and assaulted before the armed robbers ran away with small valuable items.

The guest were having a braai with the owner when the attack occurred.

As per witnesses, suspects were armed with a shotgun, handgun and a baton.
