Yesterday afternoon Police Divers from Durban Search and Rescue along with National Sea Rescue Institute, Durban Metro Police SAR, ORS Harbour Police, Life Response EMS and Rescue Care EMS responded to a report of a canoe that had capsized in the channel near Wilson’s Wharf.

The NSRI Rescue Vessel, Alick Rennie, with Police Divers on board arrived on scene to find that a passenger charter vessel had rescued a 28-year-old male from the water. A second male (40) managed to swim to the sandbank. The third victim was unable to stay afloat and drowned.

A dive operation was conducted where the missing victim was last seen. The search was suspended due to adverse conditions and continued this morning.
