On the 21st of October 2018, a local business owner was robbed when he was about to close his tavern. The robbers were drinking at the Ellias Taver, in Melville KwaDukuza.

According to information, the robbers noticed that the Tavern owner was about to close for business when one of them drew a firearm and shot the Tavern owner in the abdomen. The suspects disarmed him and forced him to go to where the cash was kept and the suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash and three cell phones.

KwaDukuza detectives acted on information leading to the location of the suspects and they were found in Inanda on Monday the 29th of October. Two firearms were recovered including the one that matched the Tavern owner’s firearm, 15 cellphones were recovered of which two belonged to the Tavern owner.

The suspects were wanted for a series of business robberies at Inanda Kwadukuza and various other areas.

One of the suspects, Mlondi Mngoma (19) appeared at Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on the 31st of October 2018 for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The suspects in this matter were also linked to another business robbery and murder in Inanda area for which they have appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on 1 November 2018 for attempted murder and Business robbery but they pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Mlondi Mngoma (19) of Melville, Mzomuhle Ndlovu (27) of Inanda and Thamsanqa Gumede (29) of Ntshawini were remanded in custody until their next court appearance on 8 November 2018 when they will apply for bail.
