Two separate North Coast Road businesses were hit by armed men on Saturday, who held up, assaulted and robbed staff members.

Armed robbers assaulted a Durban North man during a robbery at a business premises in North Coast Road at the weekend.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said two armed men had entered the premises of a business in Park Hill in North Coast Road posing as customers, before holding up staff and customers at around 5pm on Saturday. “The suspects forced some of the customers into a toilet on the premises and forced others to lie down on the floor before assaulting one of the staff members and robbing him of his cellphone. The gang fled with cash and other valuables which were taken from the premises.”

“ER24 paramedics attended the scene and transported the injured man to Addington Hospital for medical attention,” Mathios said.

A gang of three armed robbers also later robbed staff at another business premises in North Coast Road at around 9.20pm on Saturday. “The suspects held up staff and robbed them of their cellphones,” Mathios said.

Mathios said it was unclear at this stage whether the incidents were linked to the same gang.
