Nhleko must pay for police services

Die Vryburger

“Former police minister and the current minister of public works, Nathi Nhleko, abused the public police service by ordering eight police members to guard his home in KwaZulu-Natal together with a Nyala vehicle. It is a total abuse of state resources, and he must personally pay for the services rendered,” said Dr. Pieter Groenewald, the FF Plus leader and chief spokesperson for police.

“Nhleko, as former police minister, knows that he was not entitled to this protection at his private residence and that it was illegal. Protection of ministers is in any case through the GDP protection unit and not public order police. It is disturbing that the Nyala vehicle needed for other necessary public order policing, was forbidden to withdraw from the residence.”

“Senior officers must also explain why it was allowed and whether the provincial commissioner and also the operational national deputy commissioner was aware of the protection and will I ask these questions at the next meeting of the parliamentary portfolio committee for police in parliament,” said Dr. Groenewald.
