On 24 April 2019, three murder suspects including a police officer made their second court appearance in the Madadeni Magistrates Court for a bail application. The suspects, Bongani Mavuso (35), metered taxi driver Sphamandla Hadebe (37) and Mfundo Ntshangase (20) were remanded in custody until 29 April 2019, for further investigation.

They were arrested three days after they allegedly killed a 21 year old man at Madadeni. Constable Bongani Mavuso is stationed at the Newcastle Public Order Police Unit.

On 12 April 2019 at 04:00, Lungelo Nkosi (21) and his friend were at a tavern in Newcastle when they requested a metered taxi to take them to Madadeni location. The metered taxi arrived with three occupants and took Nkosi and his friend to their requested destination at Madadeni. While they were at Madadeni an argument ensued between Nkosi and the driver over taxi fees.

Nkosi was removed the taxi and was allegedly shot and killed. His lifeless body was left alongside the road. The matter was reported to the Madadeni police station where a case of murder was opened.

Madadeni detective members took over the investigation and managed to arrest all three suspects who were allegedly involved in the killing. A vehicle used by the suspects was also recovered and clothing with blood stains were also found. Two licensed firearms suspected to be used during the shooting were seized from the suspects.

The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crimes.
