New Mi7 Crime Intelligence & Investigations Unit Nabs Alleged Vehicle Thief

Earlier today, Mi7 National Group’s all-new Crime Intelligence & Investigations Unit received information on the whereabouts of a suspected stolen vehicle in the Pietermaritzburg CBD.

A VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) was obtained, and a vehicle check was done with the police. The police confirmed that the vehicle, a BMW M4, was stolen from a car wash in Midrand, Gauteng.

The team proceeded to the location, but the vehicle was gone. The details of the vehicle were then logged into the Mi7 Surveillance Net – a network of more than 140 camera systems installed throughout the Midlands with Navic Automatic Number Plate Recognition software.

The system flagged the vehicle on Commercial Road, headed towards Scottsville. Using this information, the teams conducted a widespread search of the area, and eventually, spotted the vehicle outside a hotel in Scottsville.

One man, the driver, was apprehended. It is believed the man may be linked to other cases of vehicle theft, but this is still to be determined. The matter is currently being handled by the police.

The Mi7 Crime Intelligence & Investigations Unit is a specialised team that combines expert investigation with advanced analytics and surveillance to proactively track, analyse, and respond to crimes targeting our clients and communities.
