A Blue Security armed response officer and a community member chased down and arrested a New Germany mugger who robbed a woman of her handbag on 20 June 2018.
Blue Security community and media liaison officer Andreas Mathios said the armed response officer attended the scene of the crime in High Street where a woman had just been mugged. The incident occurred at around 4.30pm.
Mathios said a community member informed the officer of the incident when he arrived and assisted him with the arrest. “The officer and the community member both drove around the neighbourhood in their vehicles in search of the suspect. They caught up with the suspect in Link Road where they spotted him running with the stolen handbag,” Mathios said.
“The officer and community member arrested the suspect and recovered the handbag which was handed back to the victim,” Mathios said.
Pinetown SAPS attended the scene.
