Economic Freedom Fighters’ national spokesperson, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, claimed on Thursday that his party’s rise in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) was “supersonic”.

“In recent months, it has actually accelerated. KZN is the home of EFF,” said Ndlozi.

He was speaking to African News Agency (ANA) ahead of EFF leader Julius Malema’s three-day campaign in the province.

“Of the 870 IEC wards, we have 825 active branches [in KwaZulu-Natal],” Ndlozi said. He said that the EFF has 110 branches in the eThekwini region.

Ndlozi said that the party’s forecasting indicated they would “do well” in the province. “But we leave it to the people to decide how much of the share of the vote to give us.”

He said the EFF would be contesting “every municipality” in the province. “We have invested in all areas,” said Ndlozi.

Asked about the EFF’s strategy to win the local government elections on 3 August in KwaZulu-Natal, Ndlozi retorted: “Simple”, before adding “we will make sure, through extensive door-to-door and community meetings, that we speak to as many voters as possible”.

Ndlozi said: “We seek to do so because our people, when spoken to, will have a chance to truly make up their minds. Nothing sophisticated, we plan to physically speak to as many of our people as possible”.

The party’s second-in-command, Floyd Shivambu, was in the province just over two weeks ago to meet councillors and PR councillors fin the eThekwini region. The Greyville venue was so packed with “fighters” others had to stand in the hallway.

Malema begins his three day visit to the province on Friday.
