The Natal MEC of Agriculture and top communist in this province, Themba Mthembu, announced that ‘parasite networks’ are undermining the department’s work.

According to him, it is clear that the department has been hijacked by people from inside and outside the department. According to him, the department is like a damaged organ that can not be healed but rather needs a transplant.

In 20 years seven MECs were replaced as well as ten heads of department. Fraud and financial misconduct as well as collusion are rife in the department.

Analysts suggest that the entire department may need to be taken over by “previously skilled retired” officials.
