The FF Plus wishes to herewith express its deepest condolences with the next of kin of the couple, Murray (67) and Julie Ross (60) from Umtentweni near Port Shepstone, who were murdered in their home this past week.

At this stage, it appears as if the couple was brutally murdered during a robbery. Both victims had stab wounds to the neck and head.

The couple was well-known and loved in their area and it is tragic that they have become part of the country’s sharply rising crime statistics.

When he announced the police’s quarterly crime statistics two weeks ago, Mr Bheki Cele, Minister of Police, indicated, among other things, that in the months of April, May and June, 5 760 people were murdered in South Africa.

Nearly all other forms of crime also increased sharply.

Meanwhile, the police force is not taking in any new recruits and many seasoned and experienced police officers are leaving the service. As a result, the crime rate will keep climbing until a government comes into power that is serious about ensuring the safety of the people.

Until that happens, lives will remain cheap and crime will flourish in the country. The tragic murder of the Ross couple attests to this.
