On Monday 11 October 2021, Hawks members from Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation working together with Crime Intelligence, Provincial Trio Task Team and Durban Flying Squad arrested a 23-year-old suspect for murder of a police official.

On 15 June 2021, Sergeant Siyabonga Radebe who was stationed at Umlazi K9 Unit was off duty playing pool table at C section in Umlazi. It is alleged that two suspects entered the place and fired several shots at him. He was taken to hospital for medical attention and was declared dead on arrival.

A case of murder was reported at Umlazi police station and the case docket was allocated to the Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation team for intensive investigation.

On 19 June 2021, police arrested Siphindile Sithole (33) and her accomplice was fatally shot during the shootout with police.

The arrested suspect is expected to appear in the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 14 October 2021 and possibly join Sithole in the same court on Friday.
