On Tuesday, 31 August 2021 Mthunzini High Court convicted and sentenced Bheki Gumede (38) to fifteen years imprisonment for armed robbery which happened at Dumisani Makhaye Village near Empangeni in 2015.

On 17 July 2015 Gumede and his accomplices allegedly shot and killed Xolani Nkosi who was a bodyguard of the Former KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Senzo Mchunu.

They then robbed him of his two cell phones and firearm.

A case of murder and armed robbery was reported at Empangeni police station and the case docket was allocated to Hawks members for intensive investigation.

In 2018 the accused were arrested and charged for murder as well as armed robbery.

They appeared in court several times until they were found guilty and sentenced.

Gumede’s co-accused, Ntuthuko Mkhwanazi (27) was also sentenced to eight years imprisonment for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
