The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula hailed the latest arrest of a suspect wanted for the brutal killing of a family in Mpumalanga on 11 December 2019.

“Detectives from our Provincial Organized Crime Unit led by Brigadier Teboho Mbele have been pursuing this investigation for the past two months and despite many challenges they have been able to make a breakthrough. We will leave no stone unturned and ensure that the perpetrators face the full might of the law,” he said.

Following a rigorous investigation detectives arrested a police officer in Johannesburg on Friday. The warrant officer (51) is expected to appear at the Mpumalanga Magistrates Court on Monday facing murder and attempted murder charges. He will join his co-accused Buhlebakhe Khomo (29) who was arrested on 2 January 2020. More arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.

On 11 December 2019, the family were seated at their home at Unit 3 in Mpumalanga watching TV when they heard gunshots emanating from the door and the windows. Six people aged between 11 and 52 died on the scene after they sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

A three-year-old boy was injured when he was shot on his leg. Charges of murder and attempted murder were opened for investigation at Mpumalanga SAPS and transferred to the Provincial Organized Crime Unit for investigation.
