In the early hours of Friday, 24 October 2025, the Durban Metro Police Service Tracing Unit, together with SAPS Isipingo Trio Crimes Unit and Provincial Crime Intelligence, conducted a successful joint operation targeting individuals linked to serious and violent crimes across the EThekwini Municipality.

During the operation, officers intercepted a white Nissan NP200 along Morris Gumede Drive, Umlazi (U-Section). Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered a 9mm Glock pistol, a magazine with seven live rounds of ammunition, and a grey smartphone.

Further investigations revealed that:

The recovered firearm was linked to an armed robbery and carjacking case in Cato Manor (CAS 37/09/2025).
The vehicle was confirmed to be hijacked and belongs to the eThekwini Municipality’s Electricity Department.

All exhibits were booked at SAPS Umlazi for further processing. The arrested suspect was detained, and investigations are continuing to trace the remaining suspects.

Well done to all units involved for their professionalism and swift response in removing illegal firearms from our streets.
