On Friday 2016-07-30 at about 20:45 members of Inanda police were conducting their crime prevention duties at Inanda when they followed up information about a wanted suspect who was wanted for a number of crimes including house robberies and house breakings. The members spotted the suspect at Nhlungwane area, Ntuzuma and was approached.

The suspect allegedly fired shots towards the members and the members returned fire injuring him on his leg. He managed to flee the scene and the members called for a back-up while chasing the suspect. More members came and the suspect was cornered. He allegedly continued shooting towards the members and the members fired back. He was allegedly shot and killed. The suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol with three live rounds.

The suspect who was identified as Sandile Buthelezi (24) commonly known as ‘Msenti’ was wanted for crimes he committed at KwaMashu, Ntuzuma and Durban. Ntuzuma police opened a case of attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The Acting KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa warned the criminals that they rather surrender if approached by the police. “They must not attempt to shoot at the officers because our police officers will protect themselves by shooting back. While our police officers are busy with local government elections, day to day duties will still be conducted in the province to fight crime. Community must work together with the police in crime prevention by reporting those wanted for any criminal activities in the province,” he said.
