A house break-in suspect was arrested and severely beaten by members of the public in Missionlands - Verulam

A house break-in suspect was arrested and severely beaten by members of the public in Missionlands – Verulam, KwaZulu Natal.

On July 23, 2016 at approximately 08:20am members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to Delta Road after receiving information that a suspect had been apprehended by the public. Upon arrival Officers found the suspect tied to a tree. He had sustained open cuts to his body after being whipped with a sjambok.

It is alleged that the suspect was in the process of breaking into a home when he was spotted by neighbors. The suspect fled the property but was pursued by residents in the area who eventually caught up with him on Misson Road. A large crowd gathered at the scene and began assaulting the suspect.

The suspect was placed under arrest and handed over to the SAPS for further investigation.
