Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to Umdloti Beach Road in the vicinity of Waterloo, Verulam after a 29 year old Chef reported the discovery of a female body while walking to a local store on Friday evening 5 June 2020.
At approximately 17:37 Paramedics and Reaction Officers arrived at the scene and found the the woman lying in the overgrown grass under a tree next to the road. Her hands were bound and she was gagged with a cloth . She was top less and a handbag was found next to her.
On assessment Paramedics found that the woman was alive but in a serious condition. Her restraints were removed and she was stabilized on scene. After regaining consciousness the 21 year old explained that on Monday this week she was grabbed by unknown men in the Verulam CBD.
The Ndwedwe resident has little recollection of events since. She is believed to have been drugged and raped before being dumped.
RUSA and SAPS Officials received information of the kidnapping earlier this week after the victim’s partner received several Whats app messages demanding a ransom for her release. Pictures of her bound and gagged was also sent to him by the kidnappers. This was not made public to ensure the safety of the woman.
The area has been cordoned off as investigations are ongoing.
