An eThekwini Metro Police officer has been shot dead, police said on Wednesday.
Police spokeswoman Thembeka Mbhele confirmed the shooting incident saying that the officer was found in his car on Tuesday evening in Durban’s Umlazi township.
She said the 36-year-old officer was found in his car in Q-section in Umlazi shortly after 5pm.
While she said the motive was unknown, it is understood from police sources, who declined to be named, that the officer had been shot 13 times after visiting his girlfriend.
He was apparently in his personal vehicle.
