Margate police killers sentenced to life imprisonment

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) has welcomed the life sentence handed down by the Ramsgate High Court for the three assailants who killed Constable Delvin Vincent in April 2015.

The lengthy jail terms must serve as an indication that the killing of police officers will not be tolerated. The justice system must continue to punish criminals who show contempt for the Rule of Law.

Constable Delvin Vincent who was stationed at Margate Police Station was shot by three suspects while he was on his way home from a friend’s house. He was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to the injuries.

Three accused, Nkosiphendule Cwele (37), Douglas Hamann (43) and Msizi Ngubelanga (27) were successfully linked to the callous and later arrested for the murder by the Hawks Port Shepstone Serious Organised crime team at various locations.

The bail application was successfully opposed until their sentencing. The three were effectively sentenced to life imprisonment each for the murder.

Although such a sentence would not bring back Constable Vincent, the DPCI find solace that in the end, justice has been served. The DPCI applauds the investigating team and the NPA for making sure that the suspects receive the harsh sentences which will sure send a strong warning to any would be police killer that crime does not pay.
