On 12 May 2019 at 17:40, Martin Nkosenhle Sithole (47) and Golden Shange (48) were busy chatting on Voortrekker Street in Newcastle when they were allegedly shot by unknown suspects. They sustained gunshot wounds to the body and were declared dead at the scene.

Other three bystanders sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for medical attention.

Charges of murder and attempted murder were opened at Newcastle SAPS.

The docket was transferred to the Political Task Team for further investigation.

Three accused Peter Mazibuko (53), Phakama Radebe (38) and Philani Thwala (39) were placed under arrest. They made several court appearances and the matter was adjourned to 12 November 2021.

The investigative team is appealing to members of the community to assist in tracing and locating Njabulo Mvelase (37).

A warrant for his arrest was issued by the court and reward of up to R15 000-00 has been offered to anyone who may have any information that will lead to his arrest.
