At approximately 19:00 on Tuesday Marshall Security received a call for a motor vehicle collision on Buttery Road in Greenwood Park, north of Durban.
Armed Reaction officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival a bakkie was found to have collided into a tree. On further investigation it was ascertained that the driver had sustained a gunshot wound to his chest.
The driver, a male approximately 40 years of age suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead on arrival of paramedics.
Further investigation lead to the discovery of a firearm, abandoned approximately twenty meters from the scene.
The scene was handed over to the South African Police Services for further investigation.
