KwaZulu-Natal man sentenced to life in jail for raping 6-year-old stepdaugher

A 31-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Richard’s Bay Regional court this week for raping his six-year-old stepdaughter, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Friday.

The girl was raped in 2010, said police spokesman Thulani Zwane.

“The accused (31) raped the victim and threatened her not to report the matter to anyone. She was left by her mother with the accused trusting that nothing will happen,” said Zwane.

“The case was only reported in 2012 after a woman who was looking after the victim, noticed something suspicious in the behaviour of the child. The child informed the woman that she was raped by her stepfather.”

The matter was reported to the Richard’s Bay police and later transferred to the Empangeni family violence, children protection and sexual offences unit.

“The accused was immediately arrested and charged with rape. He appeared in court several times until he was convicted and sentenced by the Richard’s Bay Regional Court.”
