On 13 December 2016, Mtunzini Regional Court convicted and sentenced Ganyana Mpanza (29) to life imprisonment for rape.
On 13 April 2013, a 11-year-old victim was raped by the accused after he called her to come and stay with her girlfriend since he was going somewhere. The victim did as she was instructed since they are neighbours, the accused asked her to accompany him to his room and he raped her.
A case of rape was opened at Mtunzini Police station and the docket was transferred to Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for further investigation that to led to the arrest of the accused on 29 February 2016.
The accused made several court appearances before he was convicted and sentenced.
