On 2 November 2018, Empangeni Regional Court convicted and sentenced a 30 year old rapist to 20 years imprisonment for raping his niece. In December 2017, an 11 year old victim was in her home at Wildebees Street, Empangeni with her siblings when her uncle accosted her in her room where she was raped. She reported the matter to one of her siblings who then accompanied her to report the incident.

A case of rape was opened at Empangeni police station and the docket was assigned to the Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for investigation.

The investigating officer did not waste time, he arrested the accused the following day and he was kept in custody throughout the trial. He made several court appearances until he was successfully prosecuted to serve to 20 years behind bars.

He is barred from working with children and his name will be recorded in the Sexual Offenders Register.
