Man sentenced to 20 years for killing his girlfriend

On 21 May 2021, the Verulam Regional Court sentenced Mduduzi Kwazi Nkomo (29) to 20 years in jail for killing his girlfriend. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

On 15 May 2019 at 21:30, at Magwaveni in Tongaat, Nkomo arrived at home of Ntshengisile Dladla (32) who was with her 11-year-old son and knocked on the door. When she refused to open the door, the accused kicked it open and entered. He stabbed Ntshengisile multiple times with a knife and a drill.

The victim was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

The child that witnessed the incident managed to run to the neighbour’s house for assistance. The accused also attempted to kill himself but he survived.

A case of murder was opened at Tongaat SAPS. The accused was immediately arrested for murder. He was kept behind the bars until his sentence.
