At approximately 06:00 this morning members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to Redcliffe Drive in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal after receiving reports of a suspect opening fire in a bus.
Upon arrival reaction officers were informed that the bus carrying approximately 20 passengers stopped to pick up an African male standing on the roadside.
As the man entered the bus he drew a firearm and fired a single shot at the driver narrowly missing him.
The suspect then fled the scene in an unknown direction.
The motive for the shooting has not been established at this stage.
