Man murdered for mobile phone in Tongaat

On Saturday at approximately 19:02 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to Edmundsbury Street in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal after receiving reports of a stabbing.

Upon arrival a 40 year old Indian male was found lying in a grassy pathway. He had sustained a single stab wound to his neck. The victim showed no signs of life and was declared dead on arrival by paramedics.

It is alleged that the victim was walking to his home on Saxon Street when he was accosted by an African male who robbed him of his cellphone before stabbing him and fleeing the scene in an unknown direction. The victim was later identified as Neren Haridas.

A case of murder is being investigated.
