Man killed for handbag in Hazelmere

A 34 year old man has died after he was shot on Saturday during a ròbbery on Hazelmere Road in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal.

At approximately 20:27 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene after receiving information regarding the incident. Upon arrival the South African Police were in attendance.

A man was found lying in the roadway bleeding excessively from penetrating wounds to his face and chest. He was assessed by Medics and found to have been fatally injured in the shooting. It was established that the deceased and his girlfriend were walking together when they were approached by three men. One of the suspects drew a shot gun and instructed the couple to hand over their valuables.

The couple attempted to flee when the male victim fell. He was then shot at least two times. Approximately 27 metal pellets struck the deceased in the chest and face. The suspects then robbed the female victim of her hand bag before they fled the scene on foot. The deceased’s girlfriend was not injured.

The South African Police are investigating further.
