It is alleged that on 3 September 2019, at 18:10, the victim was busy washing his aunt’s vehicle at their home at Buffelsdraai in Verulam when he was approached by three armed men. At gunpoint they demanded the car keys and forced the victim into the boot of the vehicle. He was later dropped off in Bhambayi.

A case of carjacking was opened for investigation at Verulam SAPS.

On 9 December 2019 at 17:00, a team of detectives responded to intelligence gathered during the course of the investigation with regards to the suspects involved and a vehicle linked to the carjacking. Two suspects aged 22 and 33 were placed under arrest in Verulam area.

A vehicle used to transport the suspects was also seized by police. Both men will be profiled to establish they are linked to other similar crimes reported in Verulam and surrounding areas. The suspects will be appearing at Verulam Magistrates’ Court.

“The speedy response by detectives is commended. We will continue to focus on repeat offenders and ensure that the perpetrators of crime remain behind bars this festive season.” said the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula.
