On Monday, 9 July 2018, Verulam Magistrate’s’ Court convicted and sentenced a 30 year old accused to 22 years imprisonment for raping his mother.
In 2015, the victim (52) and the accused were residing together in the Phoenix area, it is alleged that the victim was alone at home with the accused who approached her and informed her that he wanted to have sexual intercourse with her whilst she was having a bath.
The accused booted the bathroom door, the victim refused and told the accused that she is his mother and that this could not happen. The accused then assaulted the victim and forcefully raped her. The victim than reported the matter to the relatives, when the accused was questioned he denied it.
On the second occasion, in March 2016, the victim was again alone with the accused at their homestead when he forcefully dragged and raped her, the victim than reported the matter to the police and the accused was then arrested.
The victim was interviewed by the court and she informed the court that she was afraid for her life as the accused was violent. He made several court appearance till he was convicted and sentenced to 22 year imprisonment for rape.
