On Wednesday afternoon 19 July 2017, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a drowning at the Wilson’s Wharf area of the Durban harbour.

People at the Wharf area noticed a body floating in the water and a nearby boat pulled the man from the water in the hopes of rescuing him and brought him ashore near to the yacht berth area. The incident and preceding events still need to be investigated.

Upon arrival at the scene, paramedics noticed that the victim had been in the water for some period of time, tragically there was nothing further that paramedics could do for him and he was declared dead at the scene.

It was estimated that the unidentified man was approximately 45 years old. Documentation pertaining to his death was completed by Netcare 911 and handed over to authorities at the scene.

The Harbour SAPS also attended the incident.
