Man assaulted with panga in robbery near Tongaat

A 39 year old man was injured after he was assaulted during a robbery while parked in a sugar cane plantation opposite King Shaka International Airport near Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal.

At approximately 14:16 on 28 July 2016, members of Reaction Unit South Africa were dispatched to a distress call from a woman requesting assistance after she and her boyfriend were robbed and assaulted. Reaction Officers were dispatched to the location and upon arrival found the male victim lying on the floor and bleeding excessively from a wound to his head. He was naked from the waist down.

The couple claimed that while parked in the sugar cane plantation a suspect broke the passenger side window on their Toyota Corolla. The suspect, who was armed with a firearm and two pangas (machetes) assaulted the male victim before robbing him of his wallet and clothing. The female passenger managed to flee the scene and sought assistance from a nearby religious institute.

The victim was treated on scene for his injuries before being transported to a local hospital. Reaction Officers and members of the SAPS searched the vicinity for the suspect however no arrests were made.
