The driver of a Mercedes Benz was assaulted by the public after he fled the scene of an accident on Gopalall Hurbans Road in Tongaat on Wednesday 31 October 2018.
At approximately 07:41 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to the scene by a passerby reporting a collision between a bus and a Mercedes Benz outside the Tongaat Post Office.
Upon arrival it was established that bus was travelling on Gopalall Hurbans Road towards the CBD when it collided into a Mercedes Benz at the intersection. The driver of the Mercedes Benz abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. He was pursued by onlookers who apprehended and assaulted him.
He confirmed that he was employed at a Park and Fly business and the vehicle belonged to a customer.
The driver of the Mercedes Benz was placed under arrest by Police and detained at the Tongaat SAPS. No one was injured.
