Man arrested after hacking his wife’s rapist to death with his own panga

A rape suspect was hacked to death by the husband of the woman he attempted to rape in Magwaveni, Tongaat in Kwazulu Natal on Monday 4 March 2019.

At approximately 11:03 the Reaction Unit South Africa Tongaat Operations Centre received a call from a member of public reporting the incident. Upon arrival the suspect was found lying outside the home bleeding excessively from injuries to his head and arms.

It was established that the suspect had entered a residence armed with a panga and attempted to rape a woman who is five months pregnant. Her husband was in one of the bedrooms and went to his wife’s aid when he heard her screaming for help.

When he found the suspect attempting to rape his wife he grabbed the suspect’s panga and repeatedly hacked him with it. The seriously injury suspect stumbled out of the home and collapsed outside. Paramedics from the Provincial Ambulance Service were called to the scene and upon arrival found that the suspect had died from his injuries.

The victim’s husband has been placed under arrest while Police investigate further.
