Port Shepstone Regional Court Sentenced Sukoluke Innocent Ngqulunga (22) to life imprisonment for murder and a further 10 years imprisonment for housebreaking with intent to murder. The sentences will run concurrently and he was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

On 16 August 2015, Ntombilezi Sanatoria Mhlongo (57) was sleeping at her place of residence at Mvozane Ward in the Mehlomnyama area when Ngqulunga forced the door open and attacked her.

Mehlomnyama police were called and charges of murder and house breaking were opened for investigation. A member of the community who saw the accused at the deceased premises informed the police and police began to search for the accused. The investigation led the police to Dweshula area where the suspect was hiding.

When the accused spotted the police vehicle he attempted to flee however Police managed to apprehend him and he was arrested. Body parts of the deceased were found at his premises.

The investigating officer worked tirelessly to make sure that the accused received the maximum sentence. He made several court appearances until his conviction on 25 January 2019.
