On 15 August 2018, the Esikhaleni Regional Court convicted and sentenced 37 year old Babo Sphamandla Dube to life imprisonment for killing Lindeni Mkhwanazi (27) during February 2016.

Dube and his accomplice entered a house in Ndaya Reserve by kicking the door open and found Mkhwanazi with her fiancé on the night of 22 February 2016. They threatened them with a firearm, demanded cell phones and cash. They then shot at Mkhwanazi who was in the bedroom, fatally wounding her and fled. She sustained four gunshot wounds.

A case of murder and robbery was opened at Esikhaleni police station for investigation. A thorough investigation was conducted which led to the arrest of the accused.

He was tried and successfully prosecuted in the regional court. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances.

His accomplice is still sought and his luck will soon run out. We are thrilled that our work paid off, we secured a life term on a gender based violence case in Women’s Month.
